Fast and Furious star Paul Walker died in a car crash in Southern California on Saturday, November 30, 2013. He was 40 years old. Walker was a passenger in a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT when the car slammed into a light pole and caught on fire. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office stated that speed was a factor in the crash. The 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, which sold for $450,000 when new, is powered by a V-10, 605-hp engine, which is notoriously hard to handle.
In 2007, Porsche was sued under a products liability theory for alleged mechanical and design defects in the Carrerra GT. The complaint also alleged that the Carrera GT was too hard to handle at high speeds for the average driver without instruction. In that case, two men lost their lives when they took the Carrera GT out to the Ferrari Owner’s Club track and hit a wall at over 100 mph. The wife of the passenger killed in the crash hired a products liability lawyer to file suit against Porsche and several other defendants. The case reportedly settled for $ 4.5 million.
